Josh viles joins the DL

The disabled list continues to grow on day three' with confirmation of Matt's foot break pending, and a crunchy swellbow on our man josh...

yesterday... Little 5, Duncan Creek, Zion, Watkinsville Ramp

yesterday was a good road day... starbucks morning and the blog and the twitter and the facebook...
...then off to Little 5 points to visit with Thomas Taylor at Stratosphere...

from there, we hit the road, got some food... what was it? oh yeah five dollar footlongs...

We hit Duncan Creek, where there was the usual compliment of scooters and kids on bikes clogging up the strange "street course". Old Lew carved the big bowl with Will Boatwright and crazy Dale for a few hours there. Wes, Native, Ben and Sunshine played around on the rest of the stuff... until we finished the session by converging on the congested street course thingy... we started whooping and hollering as we dove into the chaos, and things cleared out nice enough for josh to session the big old jersey wall with some blunts and rocks and an air out or two.

from there we headed about an hour away to the Watkinsville/Athens area... That's out there in the country. Man, the hospitality was WARM! Zion had us in for free, and we had a major fun session there. I mean, the stoke was on.
Then the free pizza arrived! This Zion park, run by Tami, Mamie, and Bo Maddox, let us skate free, then fed us pizza... We really enjoyed the company of Old School, who is also named Pancake... and the kid who broke his ankle a while ago.

Then we were over to the Watkinsville Ramp... a locals only keypark that houses one very beautiful vert ramp. The session was already hot when we got there, and we were already a little used, but the crew threw it down and held it down for a good few hours there.

As we roll out of bed, we are stoked that we feel so good. here's a tip, kids, don't ruin yourself. Skate every day. Keep it straight.

Our man Mike Mills held it down on the ramp.
Shane Hicks, our country boy rider, threw it down. maaas.
jaimie, friend of Fickle, is insane and will probably be institutionalized for the criminal acts he committed on that ramp. Let's hope there were no fbi agents around.

So we're grinding down some chicken sandwiches and heading out.

By the way, we aren't posting vids because there's just no time to edit crap up... we'll grab something short today for you. Maybe Thomas Taylor defining style at Mountain park.

Remember that our boards are really good, and that's what we're about. Go get one. The Galaxie is stocked...

no Truck Time

One thing about our wood is the fact that it's cut in Canada, where hardrock maple grows best, with good cold winters and all.. then it's milled in America, right on the lakes, then it's pressed from veneers, right there in PA, near the OH border.

So we drive the tercel and pick it up, or the minivan for bigger shipments, (they're getting really big), and we drive it down to our reps, or ship it UPS for a day or 2.

But we realized that our wood spends less truck time, and zero Boat time or plane time, and almost no warehouse time, especially once it's pressed.

That is one of the difference that has people asking for Fickle around here.

on the DL

downlow?
disabled from learning?

...both.

Native's foot is sore today after months off for a serious surgery. Now he has adamantium plating on the bones of his foot! but the muscles got overworked yesterday on mass flip tricks and smoothnesses. All the ladies was pinin.

Little Parks, Parker Hart, Daniel's son, the son of our Knoxville Rep, got his face all smashed up proper in the bowl at the factory.

...and then, on the very spot where Parks went down, there goes Daniel Spath (pronounced spayth)... Wham! down he goes. Snap! the head whips down. Smack! the helmet gets used. Flop flop flop go the gentle motions of seizure-ridden arms... Daniel was down.

So he went home to a night of being waked up ever 45 minutes to have light in his eyes to make sure he's not gushing mass blood into his brain.

We're meeting up with young Daniel to skate again today.
Parker's face looks like meat.
Native's taking an easy day...he'll tear it up. he can't help himself.
And Will B. is getting a new knee brace in the mail today. he'll meet us after it comes. UPS tracking says 11Am.

so we'll see who joins the hall of meat today.

The Factory Skate Park

We rolled into the Factory Skate Park, where our new rider/rep Will Boatwright met up with the cincy crew for the first time... we got there about 845pm and were warmly greeted by Brad at the desk.

Brad's been working at TF for like years and years (6 i think). He handled business... waivers money (thanks for the industry rate--something we're still not used to).

We headed back to the back room for a bowl session. Remember, this is after Columbus skate park... We were just warming up.

Brad let us stay late for a little, and things got cooking. We were stoked at Will, who's the spitting image of Peter Hewitt. No joke... Skates like a beast, despite brand new torn cartilage in one knee.

Fickle Skates wounded.

So the Factory Skate Park in Newnan GA was a great stop. Gnarly street course, insane vert ramp, sweet bowl, 2 different mini ramps... the Factory's got it all, and if you're looking for Fickle, looks like they'll be carrying us when they restock.

yesterday at Columbus... Cuckoo's Nest

We spent the day yesterday rolling down south to Columbus skate park, this real nice wally holiday joint with a massive bowl. Loved it. the bowl got skated pretty much the whole time. there was rippage, yes, but the vibe was all fun.

The temps were in the 60's, with sunshine. All us cincinnati guys really felt the low stamina.

After that it was over to the Cuckoo's Nest Skate Shop.

Listen to me now: Scott, Reggie, and the other guys around that scene are the real deal. They get it, what this is all about. We got the warmest welcome ever.
Fickle seriously wants you to know that the park in Columbus GA is a destination. Get your KOA and camp down there in Feb. Next time we're here, we're staying with those guys for days and days...

warmest thanks to Scott for a hand of friendship on the road...

Looking Forward to Sunday

This one is Daniel Spath... the boy's like 12 feet up, plus the air. That's a deep spot there. I think its Mountain Park. We are going there on Sunday for the Old Man Jam. We are stoked at the chance to share a session with guys who spent their young days pushing skateboarding to the limit.

On the Road.

We have a new travel buddy. it's the Sprint mobile broadband thingy thing. It's little and silver and just sits there and we can have 5 laptops (which we don't have) online in the car or wherever we go... So I'm sitting here and Ben is driving and The Lions Rampant is blasting and Weston is couched out on the gear in the waaay back and Native and Sunshine are in the captain's chairs...

we just ground down 25 pounds of BK at the last exit, and are headed to Flamingo Skateshop in Chattanooga TN in about 40 minutes. There we'll connect with Josh Viles and Daniel. Josh is a terriffic, terrorizing ripper. More joy in the act of destruction than the law allows... except in chatty, where there seems to be quite a bit of street that isn't heavily regulated, and an aquarium complex that HAD to have been designed by skaters!

From there, we're going down to Dalton, GA area, where skateboarding is fully illegal. Last time we were there, eating at a wendy's, there was this full-on ditch sesh that got going and "boooop!" the cops are pulling in there 2 cars strong. We scattered and got them unfocused, narrowly missing our opportunity to explain our love for high-velocity ditch-bombing to ticket-pad-weilding heavies with nothing better to do than to descend on us like shock troops.

The locals (whassup chango) totally warned us about that. we were astonished at the accuracy of their report. Needless to say, we'll stick to the skatepark... except that we'd really like to show you that ditch. it's raaad.

So we'll see... for now, signing off from the road. Lew for Ben, Nick, Wes and Sunshine... Fickle Road Trip Leg 1.

Departure Weather

Snowy and cold on departure...

Accoutrements

When you skate as hard as these Fickle riders, you gotta keep your gear proper. So when Weston's duck tales tee shirt got kinda worn through...

Crossroads tradeshow...

For those of you who arent following us on facebook or twitter, Lew and Native Nik just spent a few days in San Diego while Matt and Mike Marrone started a FickleBoards ramp build for the kids of Hamilton, OH.

Nik and Lew were accompanied by Ryan, Nik's ex-marine brother. He was quickly dubbed "hired muscle", "el musculo", and finally "Peace Pipe".

So Old Lew, Native Nik, and "Peace Pipe" brought the beard and a bag of boards to Jamie Thomas' "for the  core" Crossroads Trade Show.

It was raaad as heck to see the likes of greco, navs, mic e reyes, walking around looking cool as hell, but the highlight of fanning came to us in the form of Patrick Melcher's enthusiasm for Lew's membership in Beard Team USA.  Please send a donation to send Lew to Oslo with Patrick to represent not only this fine country, but heart-level skateboarding.

When Lew and Melcher embraced in manly affection, the two beards literally reached out to one another in what could only have been an earthly parallel to the Pandoran neurological joining on that one 3D flick that came out recently... even the stiffly waxed curves of Melch's 'stache straightened a little... our beards may just possibly be in love.

Ritchie Jackson stood by, looking on with an obvious respect for what was transpiring between our facial hairs.

Seriously, those guys represent a lot of what ccwave and Fickleboards are about-- unleashing an unapologetically creative and fun approach to the love of motion in skateboarding.

Props to michael brooke of Concrete Wave for spotting something in Fickleboards that fit the oddity crew at the ccwave booth. There were longboards, hand painted stuff, bamboo stuff, electric skateboards, massively engineered downhilling stuff, plastic tipped boards, and everyone that stopped by had a BLAST. You should have seen Mic-e Reyes from Deluxe (thanks for the coffee) zooming around the show on the Altered Skateboards electric skateboard! What a smash hit!

FickleBoards cannot express enough support and appreciation for the work of Michael Brook and Concrete Wave.

Another Great Weekend

I think we were in Knoxville last weekend, weren't we? Dancing in the pit at Agent Orange! Hey all you Pluto Dudes! we danced with you!!! That was proper! Fickle for life! or not.

This weekend I got word that our very own Josh Viles (Knox) got his self an energy drink sponsor! More on that soon.

Simultaneously, we were working on our own promo vid for an energy drink sponsor. We likes the energy drinkses. we just say no to illegal drugses but our energy drinkses and our coffeeses we likes them.

This weekend was a Weston Weekend here at 1320 Chase. Young Wes was our honored guest for the duration. Dude, the kid is not only a ripper... but he's a great houseguest! you just put on Hesh Law or Prevent this Tragedy, give him a 2-liter of diet anything with caffeine...

so it was go to ollies and skate come home and watch Flight of the Conchords and skate vids, then get up and work in the warehouse and then go to ollies and skate and then its home then back to ollies and then free food and a spot to snooze at a church meeting in a house down the street...then back to ollies to sesh, then to the airport and then home... then he sleeps till 5 am on monday and gets picked up to go home...

All of us here want to say thanks to Weston's family for letting us share in his journey. he tears up the transition. his street is proper and hilarious. he's one of those skaters you can't tear your eyes off because you never know what he's gonna pull out. And everthing he does is greater than the sum total of the "trick", because there's such a unique style to it all.

So much more than the tricks, of which there is an ever-deepening supply.
