A Special Thanks... Jesse Davis OBX

Fickle Boards want to extend a special thanks to Jesse Davis in OBX for the art flow that's been stoking us lately. Jesse is an OG vert ripper and, at 42 years old, he'll show you how it's done. We're talking drop in and lip slide over the death box, first move of the day, period... inverts, gnarly slashing and killerness all around, all terrain.

We especially appreciate the open and hospitable vibe that he welcomed us with on our last cold-weather trip to OBX. He and Mike Morris really made it a great time for Ben, Lew and Aaron on our non-Fickle-official visit. We are defiinitely dreaming up ways to get the whole crew there soon.

Thanks, Jesse, and all the guys in OBX who make skating there so fun.

Ben Osborne filmed by the Baileys!

Aaaaaah! The Baileys have struck! with their amazing Strange Days premier! Strange Days mania has struck! Get your copy of Strange Days from the Galaxie Skate Shop, Immediately!

FickleBoards thanks the Baileys for these clips of Ben.
FickleBoards thanks The Lions Rampant for the amazing music they make. It is truly Amazing! Do not worship the Lions Rampant. We know it is hard not to. Stewart is a Rock god.

Trippin!

We're on the road again, starting around the 6th or 7th. Lew, Native, and maybe a couple more are going Down to TN (watch out Flamingo) and to the Dog House and The Factory. We'll keep you posted.

Today we skated under the bridge in Newport. That spot has the potential to be an amazing DIY park. If the Northside Skatepark takes too long, I'm going down there to build stuff! it's got so much potential! Thanks to the local government of Newport KY that allows the DIY to progress under the wise leadership of the Galaxie Skate Shop.

Fickle At The Dog House Skate Shop and Rampage April 9th

Fickle is doing a lock in at the Dog House Ramp and shop on Friday April 9th! The Dog House is located in Clarkesville, GA, behind this mall complex with all kinds of awesome stuff there like bowling and arcade stuff! They have a cool miniramp complex, plus they're expanding soon to an adjacent location where they'll expand massively!

So sign up and get in there, all you GA locals there! We're going to shred the night away! We think it's $10 a head for an all-night skateboarding shred fest with Fickle. Lew will be down there with Native and some other riders. Shane will join us there and we'll KILL IT all night with you guys!

You Can Contact Us!

If you are a rider without a home shop, you can call or email us to get started on Fickle Wood. We are happy to ship you your wood by phone or email order. Our base price is $40 plus $10 for shipping. We eat some shipping cost to get Made in the USA quality to you.

So the next time you want to hit up some mail order kit for wood that will let you down, without actual People there to come skate with you... okay. But for the time after that, how about Fickle.

Because if you must order a board in the mail, why not a board that is produced right here, with People behind it?

Pro Skateboard Shop, Belmar NJ

These guys just picked up a couple of Fickle Boards off our friendly rep, Mike Marrone, in NJ. Mike came here and built the Hamilton Fun Center Ramp with us. Actually, Mike built that ramp FOR us, with a lot of help from Matt Simpson! Thanks Mike. And thanks Pro Skateboard Shop for your support of Made in the USA Penna-Pressed proper wood.

Josh viles update...

Due to an overwhelming surge of support for josh from the public... we have decided to keep him on the team, despite his outstanding talents. Watching that 360 to tail over the spine at knoxville... we wonder when he will find a real sponsor... and leave us broken hearted...

By the way. Our wood is the best!

We are Kicking Josh Viles off the team...

kid just doesn't fit in with the rest of us...

At Flamingo Skate Shop, Chattanooga, TN

We had a great time visiting Flamingo Skate Shop on our way back from Kona. No doubt in our minds that their shop ramp(s) will be a stop on our route from here on.

Kona: last day

Today we'll putter about at Kona for the morning, then head back to Georgia and stay with the Spaths. Our Land Shark, Mike Mills, has started an indoor ramp complex and small shop way out in an area without a local scene to speak of. he's bringing the stoke to kids who have nothing near them: that's core and cool to us...

So tomorrow morning we'll finish our trip back via dropping Josh at Knoxville, and probably skate Louisville on Sunday...

On this trip we skated more spots and parks than we should have. We could have simply bedded down in any one of these places and spent a week just soaking up lines off the locals.
Kona
Boardz
Atlantic Beach Park
New Smyrna Beach Park

these were places where we met the people who are pushing skateboarding locally, keeping the homefires burning. Thanks for the welcomes and the sessions. Thanks to Brock at Kona, and Martin and all the gang who keep that place so proper. We definitely think that anyone with the will to do it, to take the time and go skate Kona. Period.

Skate. At. Kona. before you die. at least once (a year).

Humbling!

man, we are humbled.

We have been to a bunch of spots and seen locals out there KILLING it! You know who you were. You guys are keeping the flame alive.

There is no possibility that the skills out there in the skateboarding community could be showcased in any competition! There are so many styles, so many trick combinations that have never been seen... There are so many tech-gnar, bowl-troll, off the wall amazing things out there...

Yesterday we saw this guy named Garr, who's like 47 years young, RRRIIIPPPPPPIINNGGGG at New Smyrna. This old man, he played for keeps! He showed up all the younger creeps.

Thanks to Jason, who directed us to the Mexican place for a good meal. We got full and got back safe.

To the longboarder at Kona, whose trick bag on a 40 inch board exceeded the legal limit: Props.

To Marshall, who is an ice man...

To all the kids who are scrabbling to get some skills to get out there with the big boys...

Man, Fickleboards' whole crew had a blast at every spot, just taking it all in. Especially you ABP rippers, you guys were a mile deep with style and mad tricks. We wish we had a week to just skate with you and learn from you. You all looked like Kevin Kowalski, pre-haircut, pretty much, which is totally cool to us, too.

We will definitely be back to skate in the off-season... thanks to all who shared time with us.

Weston Drops the Wall at ABP

The wall outside ABP (Atlantic Beach Park) is waaaay steeep. By the way, the locals there RIP that park. Those guys are a mile deep. WE loved visiting that park, and hope our next visit will give us more quality time there. No park we skated to date has had such a tight group of local rippers... Hesh Law prevails there.

Matt took this run on his droid phone

Thursday, March 4, 2010

i have almost no time... we skated mass all day yesterday. just wanna thank the Viles family for raising the super nicest most awesome dude around. Thanks to all the Vickers related to weston and thanks to PeacePipe for putting the pressure on Native...

joshy...

Ben is too sexy for his shirt at KONA

Just skate with us when we get back... posting these clips is depressing, how little it shows... that old death lens and embedded filmer really spices things up... But B.O. is the real deal.

Broke off Matt at kona.

The guy has a broken foot. What are you skating with a broken foot? Well, if you broke it on the first day of the Kona trip, it'd be KONA!

Joshy in the J-Bowl at Kona

we film so little. these are only symbols of the sickness that JV throws down...

Josh viles at Boardz

Ben at Boardz

Wessels... Boardz park

On vacation...

We really love all the feedback we get from all of you guys... we hope you enjoy the quality of our boards--they're some of the very best available in the country, period. I don't think it's being done any more proper anywhere else, and if it is, I'm gonna find out how to get it to you, because we are a wood company first thing of all...

... and on this vacation trip at KONA, we are all getting charged up and focused on the season to come. We are stoked to connect more with our Georgia friends... you all stoked us so much. We are stoked to hang with the Kona people... Kona is the Best. If you do a road trip, hit KONA! It is amazing to be here. They're working on getting a lot more camping space ready and stuff, too. The place is proper as get out.

enjoy the clips, but it's waaaay better to skate with you in person than to try to convey the moment in flipcammery.

today's work

Today we are putting some effort into filming somethign for you. there's a ton of ripping coming from Native, Ben, Josh (josh is amazing, man)... and sometimes a little something from Old Lew... maybe a smith grind here and there... So by tomorrow you might see the 15 foot back tails that Weston is doing. We're not kidding. Weston is KILLING it at Kona. KILLING it. He's like a troll doll come to life, ripping faces off.

Johnny's Spine Ramp

Secret spot. Super cool dude. Thanks for the invite, Johnny! We can't wait to shred for days in the area.

Shane. He's a great guy, he's young and reckless, and he's holdin it down for Fickle on the reals...

Nick Scott/AtLSkater.com

Many thanks to Jamie and Daniel for choosing FickleBoards for their shred sledding. Thanks to Nick Scott and AtLSkater for the great job they do showcasing Atlanta's amazing talents! And we can't see Thomas Taylor skate the Old Man Jam without wanting to say how much we all appreciate his holding it down so smoothly all these years. Thanks to all the Watkinsville heads who run our wood and keep us stoked to keep producing it! Top Quality, made in the USA.

setting up camp at Kona

a very special thanks to all the Kona staff, especially Brock, who welcomed us more graciously than we could have expected... These guys get it. There's a proper culture here. Kona is killing it! Thanks Brock and all who run Kona!

Hybrid Shops come to mind...

out here in Jax, wet like cats in the rain, the rays of the sun seem a million miles away.

the thing that came to our minds this morning was Fetch Skate Shop in Knoxville, where they have mass solar power. That place is a tanning salon/skate shop. What's not to love about these new hybrids?

There's a U-Haul/skate shop in Nicholasville KY.

There are several skate shops we know of that sell things that are not skateboards, but its these legitimate business hybrids that we're kind of stoked on lately... We love to see folks doing, even if they'd never be called "doing it right".

Hold it down, dear Fetch! Take care of your locals. Nurture them. Let them nurse and grow strong at your bosom.

Officer Miller

.

So when you're camping at Kona Skatepark and you get rain, you get wet. And when you get wet, you get up and go to starbucks! so who should old Lew meet there but Officer Miller!

Turns out, Officer Miller... no joke here... was once the youngest member of the ORIGINAL Kona Skate team!

This guy skated with Alva and the old heads that put this all together back in the day!!! And he was completely cool to us. We really enjoyed him telling us about the first international competition and the world's largest halfpipe to date, back in the day.

Officer Miller, peace to you, thanks for being cool to us and telling us your story. Proper

We are at KONA

Lots of folks dream of going down to Kona and staying there 4 days or so... Now we can definitely say that's solid dreaming. (is there such a thing as solid dreaming?)

...and here we are! Little Old Fickle Boards, with Weston, Josh Viles, Ben Osborne, Native Nik, and Old Lew and Daniel, Aaron, Parker and Zeke... dialing in Kona.

It's wet, and we're looking at a good rest and a mini-ramp sesh at Boardz indoor park today, but tonight, tomorrow, and friday it's ON! Kona as a homebase and Atlantic Beach Skate Park (grindline on acid)...

maybe we'll head to New Smyrna Skatepark to hang with Bike week for a minute...

Going Native

road time is good times.

Lead singer audition

Weston.  Definitely pro material...

Houses: thanks Mike and Kellie

We want to throw out a public thanks to our N.Atl rep Mike Mills and his generous and patient wife Lisa for housing us for the first 2 nights in the area here!

...and we want to thank Kellie, Michael, and Daniel (especially Kellie) for putting us up the second 2 nights.

All of your support has made it possible for us to get the wood skated down here, and is helping heads down here discover that skateboard wood doesn't have to be flat and punky with flip-dimensions.

it's hard to imagine these grown-ass men on the kinds of wood they were riding before we got here. Watkinsville Ramp was a scream, with tonnage of man-flesh riding fickleboards. Everyone swears by them, because they're just actually better than the rest. period.

Mike, Kellie, thanks for pushing for Fickle. Mike's girls adn Kellie's boys are going to rip faces off in the near future, just watch. The days of them being little kids around the fickle crew will be sweet memories...

Dreadheads and sweethairs

This whole crew is a bunch of fashion princesses. Dreads, beards, disco dancers... we wish carrie willis were here to set us straight!

Here's a shot of knoxvile parker's dreads in the morning. His dad, daniel, is our Local Rep there. You can get boards from him, after the morning dread rolling rituals...

...about all the skating...

you know how the whole "you have to post 'footy' to show what you're worth paying attention to" thing goes? Well, on this trip I realized that we don't really have anyone here who gives a crap about filming or proving to you all that we hold it down enough to sacrifice one moment of all this great skating... we don't care about attention. we just want to skate, today.

even with injuries and the whole kit of stuff that's going on, we are snagging a little footy here and there, but we're not processing much. We'll see what we can put out here to show you, but trust us, this is a trip that's about who we're with out there...

If you're about rad footy, hang with us, it could pop up today at Kona. we just need to hold still enough to put it up there...

Joshy on the D.L.

Throwing this up with my phone... joshy hit the bricks. Heres a pic.

we were stoked, though, that we could wrap it up, give him a granola bar and 3 ibuprofens, and he could rip that spine like mortal Kombat... which, by the way, we're all getting the mortal Kombat emblem tattoed on all our wrists down at Bike Week.

The Up-Earlies

This morning we are heading to Kona. It's 6 am and Old Lew is up... You see, it's a "you gotta slam a Red Bull for a late session at Johnny's backyard spine-ramp so you don't fall asleep at the wheel getting the crew to the couches" thing. Late-night RedBull plus kind of old dude equals The Up-Earlies...

It's actually kind of nice. having some solitude on a crazy trip like this.

So last night it was Johnny's ramp. we got the invite around 3pm for 8pm and go there around 920 to have it all to ourselves. We were pretty wiped after sessioning Bay Creek for 4 or 5 hours. Bay Creek is a fun park because it has a lot of "features", besides its flow-bowl and mini-half/snake runny thingy...

There are jersey quarters, actual jersey barriers, an over-vert quarter, a wedge-to-wedge right next to a wall, curved benches in the top central... a huge wedge to bank, and plenty of rails and a giant four and on and on... you can post up on something and session it (volcano, plain blocks, yada yada) with folks and then move on.

The copings and edges are all proper, and the folks there are pretty cool.

You all know that Joshy made mincemeat of the inner workings of his elbow, there, last night. We had a great meal at Wendy's after and all got to enjoy laughing it off. Josh is a hoot. One thing we all like about him is that he always laughs off the fear and the pain of skateboarding. All of us are facing fear and pain all day long on this self-inflicted joyride. Josh really shows a brother how to do it with style.
